

What can This Paper Ship do?
We pride ourselves on being versatile and always open to new ideas and requests. The sky really is the limit! We focus mainly on illustration, wedding paper goods, wedding photography, identity design, editiorial layout & design, poster design, CD design, t-shirt design, etc.
Who works at This Paper Ship?
This Paper Ship is currently husband-and-wife team Joel and Ashley Selby. We're not hiring right now, but we'll keep you posted. We'd eventually like to offer design internships as well, but we're not ready yet.
Do you have a physical storefront?
Not yet; right now we work from home. Don't be surprised to hear news of some kind of This Paper Ship location popping up in the near future, though!
Do you do everything yourselves?
Yes! We do not purchase any stock photography or illustrations. Everything is created by us in-house; the only exception is collaborations, in which case we always credit the other artists.
How much do you charge?
Our design rate is $60/hour. This rate also applies to custom illustration. If you have a desired budget, you can let us
know what it is from the beginning and we will do our best to stay within it. E-mail us for price quotes! We also offer
flat fees in our shop!
How do I get started?
Download our Terms & Conditions PDF, read over and sign, e-mail or mail us the form and any information you have regarding your project, and pay the required $50 design deposit. We will respond to you within 1-3 business days and begin working on your project as soon as the deposit goes through on our end.
When will my order ship?
Standard shop orders are typically processed between 2-3 business days. Custom orders take longer
to be completed before shipping out (please see
the custom FAQ section).
Can I have my design job rushed?
Yes, but it will cost you extra. All design jobs can be rushed at $120/hour (a 50% increase from our standard hourly rate). See our Terms & Conditions for more details.
Will you design for me for free before I commit to you?
Sorry, but no. We always require at least a $100 non-refundable design deposit up front. Additionally, we have a contract and terms and conditions that each client must look over and sign before agreeing to work with us.
Can you send me something over the weekend?
Yes, but it will cost you extra. We double our hourly rate by 50% for work on weekends. Every client must accept this rule.
Will I get a proof?
Yes! We will send you a proof by e-mail each step of the way
so that you can make any edits to a product before it goes to print.
Do you accept international orders?
Yes! We love shipping internationally! Shipping will cost extra, depending on where you are located and the weight of your item. We do our best to keep it reasonable though. Also, please keep in mind orders will take longer to ship.
Do you offer wholesale or consignment?
Absolutely! If you're interested in selling our goods at your shop, e-mail us and we'll get the ball rolling!
Are you environmentally friendly?
This Paper Ship promises to be as environmentally friendly as possible! We order most of our paper from French Paper who uses 100% clean, renewable hydroelectric energy produced at their mill. For special paper requests we commit to doing our best to find you something environmentally responsible. When shipping paper goods we use a lot of re-used or recycled packaging/fillers and all of our protective wrappers (used for single card orders and such) are cellophane and are naturally 100% compostable. Most of our printing is done
in-house as well (which eliminates a lot of waste).
How many animals do you have, anyway?
We currently are maxed out in our 1BR apartment with 3 cats. We used to have chickens, but had to give them up when we moved into the city. We do not have goats (which was a rumor at one point). We hope to one day have our own land and keep farm animals again, as well as increasing our dog, cat, rabbit, and bird population.

How to I get started?
Go to our wedding invitations page and download our custom wedding invitation form. Then head over to the shop and place your $100 non-refundable design deposit (this can also be found on the wedding invitations page). Once you have paid and e-mailed us your filled out form, we will respond to you within 2-3 business days with a plan of action.
When will I get my custom order?
Custom orders take 3 weeks to be planned, designed, and printed (not including shipping time). We like to work quickly but sometimes it depends on communication between us and you.
Can I have my custom order rushed?
Yes, but it will cost you extra. We double the final printing price by 50% for
all rushed orders. When we have a long list of custom clients and one needs something rushed, that means we have to work overtime to get everything completed.
How custom are you?
Very. We will do any colors, fonts, illustration, and design
you fancy!
Can I order custom samples?
No. Unfortunately we do not have many custom samples on hand at this time. We plan to have these capabilities in the future, though.
Can I send you my own photos?
Yes. But please make sure they are large enough to be printable (300 dpi). If you aren't sure, please e-mail one to us first and we will let you know whether or not it can be used.
Can I select my own fonts?
No. We purchase our fonts from professional font designers and prefer not to use any free fonts. If you're unhappy with a font we have chosen we will try out different ones until we find one that suits you. Most of our fonts are hand-drawn in house anyway, so they are truly one of a kind!

Where do you print?
We try to keep everything printed 100% in-house for orders of 150 quantity
or less. Sometimes we have to outsource printing for larger orders or special requests that we do not have the capabilities for, such as printing white ink.
We use a professional photo printer with eight different kinds of inks and print heads (as opposed to just your basic CMYK) and they are all archival.
What sizes can you print?
In-house we can print anywhere from business card size to 13 x 19 (our largest
frame-able size). If you need something larger we can outsource it for you.
How much does it cost?
Printing prices vary depending on quantity and size. We try to keep our printing very affordable since our clients have already paid for the design.
We can pretty much guarantee you won't find printing cheaper anywhere
else! E-mail us for a price quote!
What kind of paper can I choose?
We order most of our paper from French Paper (see more about it in our General FAQ) where it comes in virtually all weights, colors, and sizes. We
select the paper for you (based on your particular design) but are always open to requests. Paper weight determines how thick or thin a sheet is. For wedding invitations or map prints we always go with 140 weight papers which are nice, thick, and sturdy. You don't have to worry about all of this though, that's what we're here for!
Do you offer glossy printing?
Not in-house. We can outsource this for you.
Do you offer screen printed or letter-pressed goods?
Letterpressed goods are coming soon this summer! For screen-printed goods we do collaborate with other artists who use these methods of printing. You can find thise goods in our shop (such as t-shirts).
